어제 언급했던 유선생 친구이자,
트라브존 출신으로 인도에서 디자이너로 일하고 있는 Mr. Berker Ekmekci 로부터, 그와 그의 가족이 겪은 사연이 왔다.
체르노빌의 방사능이 흑해를 오염시키면서 그 영향을 직접 받은 흑해연안도시인 트라브존에서 출생하여, 평생동안 암과 투쟁을 하면서 살고 있다는 이야기이다. 그의 이야기를 카페에 올렸다.

I mentioned Mr. Berker Ekmekci in yesterday’s diary. He is from Trabzon and he is a friend of Ms. You. He is working in India as designer. He sent me a letter describing the sufferings he and his family underwent. He was born in Trabzon which is located at Northern coast of Turkey. He and his family were influenced by Black Sea which was contaminated by radiation from Chernobyl Disaster. He has been fighting with cancer during all his life. His story is introduced at the cafe address below.

トゥラブジョン出身でインドでデザイナーとして仕事をしているMr. Berker Ekmekciから、彼と彼の家族が経験した事情が分かった。
チェルノブイリの放射能が黒海を汚染させ、その影響を直接受けた黒海沿岸都市であるトゥラブジョンで出生し、一生の間、癌と闘いながら生きているという話だ。 彼の話をカフェ（当ブログ）にアップした。
1. 에르진잔에서 10시간 기차를 타고 앙카라로 가는 길목에 있는 인구100만의 카이세리로 왔다. 마침 카파도키아라는 유명한 유적지가 인근에 있다.
1. We got on the train at Erzincan. We moved to Kayseri which leads to Ankara. Kayseri is a large city which has 1 million population. The famous tourist attraction, Cappadocia, is located nearby.
1. エルジンジャンから10時間列車に乗ってアンカラに行く要所にある人口100万のカイセリにきた。 ちょうどカッパドキアという有名な遺跡が近隣にある。
2. 전날 열차를 탈 때의 에피소드가 생각난다. 하루에 한번밖에 없는 기차표가 매진되어서 버스나 다른 날로 해야한다는 것이다. 마침 창구에서 유창한 영어로 사설버스를 이용하라고 부추기는 이도 있었다. 예약해둔 호텔은 취소불가능. 당황스런 순간이다.
하지만 필자에게는 여행의 ‘짬밥’이 있다.
중간경유역인 Sivas까지는 네 자리가 있길래 무조건 올라탔다. 그리고 열차승무원에게 Kayseri로 연장이 가능한가를 물었다. 그가 빈자리를 검색하더니 Yes 라고 한다.
궁하면 통한다.
2. I would like to introduce an episode of yesterday. The train was running once a day, and the tickets were sold out. We had to postpone our schedule by one day. Somebody encouraged me to ride a private bus in good English. To make it worse, I could not cancel the hotel which I made a reservation in advance. It was a time of crisis. However, I have a secret wisdom which I have acquired during long travelling. I bought four ticket going to Sivas which was located in the middle of the course. Then I asked the crew in the train if it is possible to extend our tickets to Kayseri. The answer was “Yes!” There is an English proverb, “Want makes wit.”
2. 前日列車に乗る時のエピソードが思い出される。 一日に一度しかない列車の切符が売り切れて、バスや他の日でしなければならないということだ。 ちょうど窓口で流ちょうな英語で私設バスを利用しろ、とそそのかす人もいた。 予約しておいたホテルは取り消し不可能. 当惑する瞬間だ。だが、筆者には旅行のチャムバプ(旅慣れした第六感）がある。中間経由駅のSivasまでは四座席があるので無条件で乗った。 そして列車乗務員にKayseriで延長が可能かを尋ねた。 彼が空席を検索するとYesという。窮すれば通ず。
3. 전날 한밤중 2시에 도착한탓에 이 날은 느지막이 일어나 짐을 갖고 움직이기로 했다.
3. Since we arrived at the hotel at two o’clock in the morning, we got up late. We started late.
3. 前日の真夜中2時に到着したために、この日は遅く起きて荷物を持って動くことにした。
4. 시내로 가는 길목에 있는 터키식당에서 아침겸 점심을 먹는다. 반찬이 다양하다. 풋고추와 마늘조림도 보인다.
4. We had late breakfast at a Turkish restaurant on the way to downtown. The dishes were plentiful. There were garlic and fresh pepper.
4. 市内に通じる要所にあるトルコ食堂で朝・昼食を食べる。 おかずが多様だ。 青唐辛子とニンニクの煮物も見える。

7. 인구 백만답게 잘 정비된 도시다. 이번에 살펴보니 터키는 명목상의 국민소득은 1만달러 수준이지만 농산물이 싸고 물가가 안정되어 있어서 구매력기준으로 따지면 대략 2만달러는 넘는 듯하다. 통계는 숫자일 뿐일까.
최근 흑해유전과 셰일가스 개발 등의 소식도 들린다.

7. Kayseri is a well-designed city having a population of 1 million. I investigated and found out that Turkey’s per capita GNP was about 10,000$. However, the agricultural produce were low in price and overall price for living was stable. In terms of purchasing power, the GNP per capita would go over 20,000 $. The statistics is misleading sometimes. Moreover, three were good reports of oil filed in Black Sea, and development of shale gas.
7. 人口百万らしくよく整備された都市だ。 今回調べてみるとトルコは名目上の国民所得は1万水準だが農産物が安くて物価が安定していて購買力基準で計算すればおよそ2万ドルは越えるようだ。 統計は単なる数字なのであろうか。最近、黒海油田とシェールガス開発などの便りも聞こえる。

8. 도심에 있는 옛학교 건물. 우리의 향교나 서원 같은 곳이다. 에르주룸에서 감지한 교육중시의 전통을 다시 만난다.
8. An old academy in downtown. It is like Hyangyo or Seowon in Korea. I found that Turkish tradition values education while I travelled in Erzurum. I found that tradition again in Kayseri.

9. 시설내의 옛교실내에는 여러 종류의 전통가게가 있다. 그중 한 곳을 들어갔다.
종교의식을 올릴 때 행해진 ‘전통춤’을 보여주는 곳이라고 한다.
9. Inside the academy, there were many traditional stores. I stopped by one of the places. The place was designed to show traditional dance during religious ritual.

18. 이런 시내를 거닐고 있는데, ‘꼬레!’ 라고 하면서 엄지척을 올리는 남자가 두 차례나 있었다. 그러고 보니 대만, 홍콩, 말레이시아, 인도 에서 많이 겪었던 제스추어다.
한국이 요즘 확실히 잘 나가는 모양이다. 표면적으로는 한류나 IT경제 때문일지도 모르겠지만 그 ‘엄지척’의 밑바닥에는 촛불이 있을 터이다.
3년전 몇달에 걸쳐 주말마다 백만명 넘는 시민들이 모여 줄기차게 촛불을 들면서 평화적인 방식으로 부패한 권력을 바꾸어낸 일 때문이 아니겠는가? 그 감동의 이야기가 지구촌 민중에게 가감없이 전달된 덕분일 터이다.
18. While I walked downtown, I saw twice a man who raises his thumb up saying “Korea!” I have seen this kind of welcoming in several countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and India. Korea is in the rising mode these days. On surface, it may be explained by K-pop or IT strength. In my opinion, however, the reason of Korean popularity is based on candle-light revolution. It was three years ago that millions of Korean people with candle-light gathered together on streets every weekend nights for almost four months. And finally the corrupt government stepped down and new government came to power in peace. This candle-light revolution has moved people of all countries in the world.
18. このような市内を散策しているが、’コレ（コリア）!’といって親指を上げる男が2度もいた。 そういえば台湾、香港、マレーシア、インドでたくさん体験したジェスチャーだ。
韓国がこの頃確かに上手く行っている模様だ。 表面的には韓流やIT経済のためかも知れないがその’親指’の心底にはロウソクの灯りがあるだろう。3年前、数ヶ月にかけて週末ごとに百万名越える市民が集まり、粘り強くロウソクのあかりを持ちながら平和的な方式で腐敗した権力を替えさせたためではないだろうか? その感動の話が地球村の民衆にそのまま伝えられたおかげだろう。

29. This tram is a large streetcar, which is popular in European cities. Kayseri is a large city with 1,000,000 population. The city has a good public transportation system.

40. Finally we arrived at Cappadocia. Well, it was wonderful. It was true as heard.
